Description: One of Nina’s earlier abstract works, “Dance of the Butterfly” depicts the final stage of the butterfly’s metamorphosis. Seeing the vibrant colours and beauty of it’s newly-developed wings, the butterfly is very pleasantly surprised. Emboldened and now filled with confidence, she proudly stretches her wings outwardly. In such a way, this butterfly’s life of effortlessly dancing through the air is begun.

A side note: Although this painting was begun by Nina (1983), the finishing touches (the gold veins within the wings) were not completed until 2010!

Shown below is an earlier study version Nina painted in preparation for “Dance of the Butterfly”. The study medium is oil on canvas and measures 20″ x 16″.
